North Mississippi Allstars: “Keys to the Kingdom”

I’ve got a quickie review of the new North Mississippi Allstars album posted at CT today. This band is a little hit-and-miss for me, but I’ll say with zero hesitation that this is my favorite of their albums thus far, the tightest and most heartfelt example of their country/blues-fueled rock and roll they’ve yet made. I’m less than thrilled with their “Stuck Inside of Memphis” cover– not because they do it as a one-chord vamp, but because they cut out most of the verses– but even that song kinda works, at least on an intellectual level, within the context of the album. Some fine stuff all around, really, and a nice Mavis cameo to boot.
