Anatomy Lessons from Ezra Furman
Ezra Furman and the Harpoons have a new album coming out October 7. It’s called Inside the Human Body, which sounds a bit like a Magic Schoolbus book title, but don’t let it throw you off. I’ve heard a lot of good albums and even a few really great albums this year, but this one just might be the most immediately winning, the most vital and alive and teeming with imagination. Furman plugs in for this one, and the result is a breathless, frenzied barrage of punk energy, rock and roll attitude, and more of Furman’s ramshackle, Dylanesque poetry. It’s a careening, rambling good time, and it’s the most fun I’ve had listening to music this year.
And here’s some more good news: You can preview two of the album’s songs, “We Should Fight” and “Take Off Your Sunglasses,” at the band’s MySpace page.
